Inside Out - Maria V. Snyder Romeo and Juliet meets Hunger Games meets Uglies?Trella is one of but thousands of Scrubs. She's also called the Queen of the Pipes for after hours and hours of going through vents and ducts she has mastered almost every nook and cranny. Not quite satisfied but obviously resigned to her life, her life of solitude (and relative peace) is disrupted once a prophet, the Broken Man, starts spouting news of the Gateway (think Distrit 13 in HG.) Once sucked into his plans, everything changes. Her bestfriend is arrested, she gets to know Riley, an Upper, then goes on the run. And like Katnisss, she becomes a reluctant symbol of resistance for both Lowers and Uppers. Here's why I liked it: OK. Everyone who knows me, knows I LOVE the Hunger Games trilogy. I will not lessen the value of Inside Out by saying it's an HG rip off. It simply isn't. It does, however, have a couple of the same elements: survival, distrust and escape. One thing I did not like about the novel was the trite way her romance developed. I mean Mama Sheepy and Sheepy? Byaaae!
